The Case for Games You Can Finish in Five Minutes
There's a quiet pressure in mobile gaming to always be progressing, always logging in. But some of my favorite phone games are the ones built for a clean five-minute session, and I think they're underrated.
A well-made short-session game gives you a complete arc every time you open it: a challenge, a decision, a resolution. It doesn't leave a timer ticking or a chore waiting. Big Bass Bonanza is a good example of this done right, and so are the tighter tower defence maps where a single scenario is the whole point.
The value isn't in hours logged, it's in whether the time you spent felt good. A game that gives me a satisfying moment and then lets me go is doing something harder than it looks.
So when we score games, we don't automatically reward length. A focused, respectful little game can earn a higher mark than a bloated one that wastes your evenings.
